The timbers

Three native woods,
three different stories.

Each timber comes from a different part of Aotearoa, with its own grain, tone, and provenance. Pick the one that suits your space.

West Coast Rimu grain

West Coast · Dacrydium cupressinum

Rimu

Centuries-old native softwood from the West Coast of the South Island. Warm orange-brown tones, a fine grain that deepens with age, and the timber most kitchens come back to. The classic NZ furniture wood.

Native softwood · up to 33 mm thick

Northland Tōtara grain

Northland · Podocarpus totara

Tōtara

Slow-grown native softwood, recovered as windfall stock from Northland. Takes thicker pieces than the others, with a quieter, more even grain. The timber for benchtops that want presence without busyness.

Native softwood · up to 43 mm thick

West Coast Beech grain

West Coast · Nothofagus fusca

Beech

Lighter-toned native hardwood from the West Coast. The cleanest of the three on grain — paler, more contemporary, with the structural pedigree of a hardwood. The choice when you want timber that reads modern.

Frequently asked

How long does it take?

+

Lead time is confirmed in your quote — typically 4 to 8 weeks from order to delivery, depending on timber stock and your sizing. We'll tell you exactly when we come back to you.

Can I add sink and tap cut-outs?

+

Yes. The configurator handles rectangular and round cut-outs, and we can do anything more bespoke on request.

How are the benchtops finished?

+

Sanded and oiled is our standard finish — a hard-wax oil that brings out the grain, suits kitchens, and is easy to refresh. Unsanded and uncoated (raw) is also available for installers who'd rather coat them on site.

Do you install?

+

We don't install ourselves — we make and deliver. Our customers are usually working with their own joiners, builders, or stone fabricators. We'll happily talk to your installer if it helps.

Can I get a sample?

+

Yes. Sample sets ship nationwide so you can see the timber in your space before committing. Order them here.

What if my dimensions change?

+

If your project shifts, talk to us before we cut. Once a slab is cut to size we can't put the timber back — but we're flexible on changes early in the process.

Can I order an unusual shape?

+

Most shapes work — L-shapes, peninsulas, irregular angles, live-edge profiles. Use the configurator for the basic outline, and reply to your quote with anything bespoke. We'll work it out together.
