The harvesting of West Coast Beech is sustainably managed by MPI under the 1993 Forests Amendment Act which. The act aims to promote sustainable forest management and protect indigenous forests. It establishes a legal framework to regulate the harvesting, milling, and export of indigenous timber while ensuring that these activities do not lead to the degradation of New Zealand’s native forests.
