Lifetime Structural Warranty
Lifetime Structural Warranty
We build furniture to be used for a long time. This page explains the lifetime structural warranty we offer on Innate-made furniture.
This warranty is in addition to your rights under New Zealand consumer law. Nothing on this page limits or excludes any rights you may have under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993, the Fair Trading Act 1986, or any other law that applies.
What we cover
For the original purchaser, we warrant the structural workmanship of Innate-made furniture for the life of the piece under normal use.
Structural workmanship means the parts of the build that hold the furniture together and make it safe and usable, including:
- timber joinery made by us;
- frame welds made by us;
- structural bases and support frames made by us;
- the integrity of the build where a fault is caused by our workmanship or materials.
If a covered structural fault appears, we will assess it and choose a fair remedy. Depending on the fault, that may mean repair, replacement of a component, workshop remedy, or another practical solution.
What is not covered
This warranty does not cover normal use, natural material behaviour, or damage outside our control. Examples include:
- normal wear and tear;
- scratches, dents, stains, water marks, heat marks, chips, impact damage, or accidental damage;
- finish wear, colour change, UV change, patina, or routine refinishing;
- natural timber movement, grain variation, knots, checking, small cracks, seasonal movement, or colour variation;
- damage caused by misuse, neglect, unsuitable cleaning products, poor storage, or lack of reasonable care;
- damage caused by modification, repair, disassembly, or installation by someone other than us or someone we have approved;
- outdoor exposure, damp conditions, or commercial/high-use settings where the piece was not designed or specified for that use;
- freight, access, installation, or site issues that are outside the agreed scope of the original order.
Outdoor and commercial pieces
Outdoor, hospitality, workplace and commercial furniture works harder than residential furniture. We still stand behind our structural workmanship, but finish wear, surface wear, weathering and maintenance are expected parts of those settings.
If a piece is going into an exposed, coastal, public, hospitality or unusually high-use environment, tell us before ordering so we can help choose the right material and finish.
Original ownership
This warranty applies to the original purchaser and is not automatically transferable if the furniture is sold or passed on. If ownership changes and you need help with a piece we made, contact us anyway. We will still help where we reasonably can.
How to make a claim
Email hello@innatefurniture.co.nz with:
- your name and order number, if you have it;
- a short description of the issue;
- clear photos of the whole piece and the specific issue;
- where and how the piece has been used.
We may ask for more photos, arrange inspection, or ask that the piece is returned to our Christchurch workshop before confirming the remedy. If the issue is covered by this warranty, we will work with you on the practical next step.
Care and maintenance
Natural timber furniture needs reasonable care. Keep indoor pieces indoors, avoid standing water and high heat, clean with suitable products, and refresh oiled finishes when needed. Care guidance is available on our Maintaining Your Table page.
If you are unsure whether something is a warranty issue or a care issue, send us photos. We would rather help early than leave you guessing.
